Xbox 2024 Year in Review Now Available

As December arrives, it’s time to reflect on the hours we’ve spent gaming over the past year. Gone are the days of manually tracking playtime—thanks to agreeing to those terms and conditions we all skip, our gaming habits are now logged and stored by multi-billion-dollar companies like Xbox. This means we can easily see just how much time we’ve spent in front of our consoles or PCs.

To kick off the 2024 year-end roundups, Xbox has launched its “Year in Review” page, giving players a chance to take a look back at their gaming journey. If you’re interested in diving into your own data, you can visit the page and log in with your Xbox account to access a detailed summary of your gaming year. The first page you’ll encounter will highlight your “Game of the Year”—the title you’ve played the most in 2024.

For me, this was a bit of a surprise. As some of you might recall from my WWE 2K24 review, I had plenty of criticisms, but it ended up being my most-played game of the year on Xbox. To be clear, most of my time with WWE 2K24 was spent reviewing the game, downloading community creations, and grabbing MyFaction locker codes, rather than playing it for fun. After my review, I didn’t return to the game much.

Once you’ve checked out your most-played game, Xbox shows you the highlights of your gaming year. In my case, most of my time was spent playing on my Xbox Series X, with 98 hours logged over the year. PC gaming, on the other hand, only added 15 minutes, as I briefly played Resident Evil 3 on PC Game Pass and had a crash during a session of Call of Duty 6.

Your Year in Review also breaks down your gameplay by genre, which for me was mostly sports due to WWE 2K24. Shooters came in second, and interestingly, I play more fighting games on PlayStation than Xbox—something I might change next year.

If you’re curious about how you compare to other Xbox and Game Pass users, Xbox also ranks you in various percentiles. For instance, I placed in the top 25% for total playtime and Gamerscore, but the top 15% for achievements was a surprise since I don’t focus much on unlocking achievements. It seems that achievements have become much easier to earn in modern games, so I’m hoping for more challenging ones in 2025.

The Year in Review gives a breakdown of your top 15 games played in 2024, and you’ll get in-depth stats for your top three titles. For each of these, Xbox shows you details like time played, Gamerscore earned, achievements unlocked, and your position within the overall player base.

WWE 2K24, my top game, had the most detailed stats. Following it were Saints Row 3 and Saints Row 4—two games I own across multiple platforms, including PS3, Xbox 360, modern consoles, and PC. I tend to revisit these games at least once a year for some mindless chaos and fun.

And, of course, no Xbox experience would be complete without a spotlight on Game Pass. Xbox includes stats about your Game Pass subscription, such as how long you’ve been a member and how many games you’ve played. I don’t spend a lot of time with Game Pass, as I prefer owning my games, but I did download the Resident Evil 3 remake during Halloween to get into the spooky spirit. Despite my short time with the game (only about two hours), Xbox still tracks the minutes and highlights them in my review.

The stats also show how many months you’ve subscribed to Game Pass, including a lifetime total of how much you’ve spent—67 months for me at AU$19 per month, totaling almost AU$1,300. Plus, Xbox calculates how long you’ve spent playing Game Pass games and how many titles you’ve tried out through the service. My Game Pass usage is relatively low, but the points I’ve earned from playing are something Xbox constantly reminds me of. I earned 258 Xbox points this year, and I’ve accumulated enough over my lifetime to get a whole $5 off coupon, though the process of redeeming these points is never quite clear.

After reviewing your own gaming stats, Xbox wraps up the experience with a video from Phil Spencer, thanking you for contributing to the company’s success by choosing Xbox over other consoles. At the end of the page, you can explore more stats and details about the overall gaming year on Xbox for 2024.
